Luanda:Angolan President João Lourenço inaugurated the 'Eternal Alliance' Memorial in Luanda, a tribute to citizens who lost their lives during the political conflicts in Angola from 1975 to 2002. The memorial, located in the municipality of Ingombota, aims to preserve the country's historical memory and promote reconciliation.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the ceremony included a religious message, a speech by the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, the unveiling of a plaque, ribbon-cutting, and a wreath-laying. The program also featured a video highlighting President Lourenço's previous apology to conflict victims and efforts to recover and identify their remains.

The memorial serves as a space for reflection on Angola's journey from independence to peace, emphasizing the importance of unity and peace. It comprises two interconnected blocks symbolizing reconciliation, and includes facilities like a souvenir shop, a digital archive space, and a conference hall. The design incorporates cultural elements from Angola's diverse regions, celebrating cultural diversity while acknowledging past conflicts.
