Lisbon: Angolan President Joo Louren§o arrived on Friday morning at Bel©m Palace in Lisbon for a meeting with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. This marks the beginning of Louren§o's three-day official visit to Portugal.
According to Angola Press News Agency, upon his arrival, the Angolan head of state was greeted with military honors and the playing of the Angolan and Portuguese national anthems during a ceremony held at the palace's main entrance. Following the official welcome, the two heads of state posed for traditional photographs in the Golden Room, after which President Louren§o signed the guest book.
A meeting between the two leaders will follow, during which they will discuss bilateral and multilateral issues. Joint statements to the press are scheduled at the end of the meeting. Also on Friday, President Louren§o is scheduled to meet with Portuguese Prime Minister Lus Montenegro and Portuguese businesspeople to strengthen partnerships and attract investment to Angola.
At least eleven legal cooperation instruments covering various areas of mutual interest are expected to be signed during the visit. The day continues with a visit to the Portuguese Assembly of the Republic, where President Joo Louren§o will be received by Jos© Pedro Aguiar Branco, the leader of that legislative body.
This official visit is part of the framework of friendly and cooperative relations between Angola and Portugal, and it aims to strengthen the two countries' political, diplomatic, and economic ties. Bilateral relations have gained renewed momentum, particularly in areas such as the economy, education, health, infrastructure, and tourism. In this context, the 550 million euro Strategic Cooperation Program (PEC) 2023-2027 stands out as a relevant milestone in consolidating the partnership between Angola and Portugal.
