Angolan President unveils Cabinda General Hospital

Cabinda – The General Hospital of Cabinda, with capacity for 200 (two hundred) beds, was inaugurated Thursday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, during his working visit.

The hospital unit will increase the offer of health services to the region’s population that previously sought treatment for chronic diseases in other parts of the country and health centres in neighbouring cities of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Congo.

After cutting the ribbon, which symbolizes the inauguration of the infrastructure, President João Lourenço, accompanied by members of the Government, toured some of the service areas.

This is a multi-purpose health unit, with a budget of USD 165.2 million, of which 85 percent is funded externally and 15 percent by the Angolan state.

The unit, whose work began in 2017, has specialized equipment, notably for treatment of kidney failure (haemodialysis) and diabetes.

The Cabinda General Hospital has a team of over 21 doctors with different specializations, 18 of whom are Cuban and three national, as well as an orthopedic surgeon, a surgeon and a nephrologist.

It also has over 30 specialists in general medicine, 300 technicians, including nurses, diagnostic and therapeutic technicians, stretcher bearers, drivers, security guards and administrative staff.

The unit has areas for emergency services, haemodialysis, physiotherapy, imaging, internal medicine, gynecology and obstetrics, birth and surgery blocks, intensive care and morgue, amongst others.

With eight floors, the Cabinda General Hospital is located in an area of 50,000 square meters.
