Angolan President Warns of UN Passivity in Global Conflicts

New york: Angolan President and African Union Chairperson, Joo Louren§o, addressed the United Nations General Assembly, highlighting the repercussions of UN Member States' passivity in addressing international conflicts. Louren§o emphasized that the failure of these states to effectively respond to territorial invasions and meddling in sovereign nations has resulted in unresolved conflicts, which continue to escalate global tensions.

According to Angola Press News Agency, President Louren§o underscored the lack of decisive action from the international community, which has allowed these violations to persist as accomplished facts, now central to major global tensions. He cited the ongoing Middle East conflict, exacerbated by the persistent neglect of UN Security Council resolutions regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The president reminded the assembly of the United Nations' 80-year legacy, formed by visionary leaders to maintain global peace and stability, advance human development, and uphold human rights. He warned against undermining these achievements, noting that egocentric agendas and political leaders could risk losing the peace benefits painstakingly built over decades.

Louren§o praised the UN for overcoming crises through dialogue and diplomacy, emphasizing that these lessons are crucial for addressing current conflicts worldwide. He stressed the importance of using past experiences as a guide for resolving instability in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia, and other regions.
