Luanda: The Angolan national Youth Judo team travels to Casablanca, in the Kingdom of Morocco, on Thursday to participate in the African Championship scheduled to take place from July 23 to 26. The team is set to compete in both the cadet and junior categories, with the cadet teams already present in Moroccan territory. According to Angola Press News Agency, the competition will feature various weight categories, ranging from -48 kilograms (kg) to over 100 kg. Angola's primary objective is to retain the African title in the individual category, while also striving to secure first place in the team events. The delegation, consisting of 20 athletes, seven of whom are cadets, is supported by two coaches and a physiotherapist and is led by Xamilson Correia, the vice-president of the federation of the sport. On the first day of the championship, individual matches will be conducted in the cadet category, followed by team events for juniors on the second day. This competition will see participation from 325 athl etes representing 42 countries. In the previous edition held in 2025, Angola achieved second place in the overall ranking, earning a total of 27 medals, including 6 gold, 4 silver, and 17 bronze. Currently, Algeria holds the championship title in the junior category, whereas Tunisia leads in the cadet category.
