Luanda: A large fire destroyed two large commercial establishments in the city of Luena, eastern Moxico province, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, including the AngoMart supermarket, which had opened 14 days earlier, ANGOP has learnt. According to Angola Press News Agency, preliminary information gathered at the scene indicated that the fire originated in a thicket located behind the two establishments. The fire rapidly spread into the premises of the ZWJF Comercial supermarket, which is owned by Chinese businessmen, completely destroying the storefront. The flames continued until they partially reached the AngoMart supermarket, resulting in the destruction of half of the stored products, including household appliances. This occurred despite intervention efforts by the Civil Protection and Fire Services, who worked to contain the fire's advance. The ZWJF Comercial supermarket had opened approximately two months ago in the region, while AngoMart was inaugurated on July 9, employing 50 people. The ma nager of ZWJF Comercial, Daniel CSndida, stated that the fire started in a thicket located behind the two establishments and quickly spread inside the stores. Without providing an estimate of the financial losses, Daniel CSndida mentioned that the company's 15 employees will be without work activity until the damages are assessed. Meanwhile, teams from the Ministry of the Interior remain on site to investigate the causes of the fire and determine the circumstances in which the incident occurred.
