Luanda: The National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) and Sonangol Exploration and Production have validated the presence of hydrocarbon reserves in the Benguela Basin. This confirmation comes from tests conducted at the Katambi-2 well, situated in Block 24, highlighting a significant potential for natural gas and condensates.
According to Angola Press News Agency, a recent ANPG press release disclosed that preliminary assessments of the test results suggest the well could produce over 100 million standard cubic feet per day. The Katambi-2 well, located 1.3 km from the earlier Katambi-1 well, has penetrated two productive intervals with a combined thickness of approximately 331 meters.
The data reflects high-quality reservoirs with average porosity between 9% and 12% and permeability levels exceeding those at Katambi-1. Testing revealed a flow rate of 41 million standard cubic feet of gas per day and 1,160 barrels of condensate per day, without any water or hydrogen sulfide presence.
The National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency emphasizes that these findings strengthen the economic viability of the discovery's development and its potential to enhance national production. The Benguela Basin is now recognized as an area with proven oil exploration potential, broadening the strategic horizons of the national industry.
