Bengo: The Secretary of State for Fisheries, Alvaro dos Santos, highlighted in Bengo province that aquaculture is poised to play a crucial role in ensuring food security while addressing significant national and global challenges.
According to Angola Press News Agency, dos Santos made these remarks during the opening of the 1st Provincial Aquaculture Forum. He emphasized that Angola's unique natural conditions provide it with a strategic advantage for developing the aquaculture sector. However, he also identified several challenges that need to be addressed, including bolstering technical and scientific capacity, improving access to adequate financing, upgrading infrastructure and quality inputs, and organizing the value chain and market.
Dos Santos reiterated the government's commitment through the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources to establish a conducive environment for investment. This includes implementing clear policies, providing adequate incentives, and offering technical support to producers investing in aquaculture. The goal is to foster a modern, competitive, and sustainable aquaculture sector that contributes significantly to national fish production. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on imports, create jobs for youth and women, and support the harmonious development of rural communities.
