Luena: The province of Moxico has secured pound 2.6 million in funding to rehabilitate and equip primary schools, an initiative that local authorities consider essential to address the weaknesses of the education system. The announcement was made during a meeting of the Provincial Community Consultation Council, chaired by Governor Ernesto Muangala.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the funding is part of the "My School, My Future" project, an initiative of the Ministry of Education aimed at improving teaching conditions in areas with degraded infrastructure. The provincial director of Education, Valeriano Chimo Cassaui©, has indicated that the investment, valued at just over pound 2.63 million, will focus on rehabilitating schools in critical condition. This initiative is crucial in a province where access to education is challenged by distance, lack of infrastructure, and population growth.
The Integrated Local Development and Poverty Reduction Program executed just over half of its planned budget in 2025. For 2026, provincial authorities anticipate more than 150 actions under the program, with a budget of 3.6 billion kwanzas. This increase reflects both government ambition and the scale of local needs. Other topics discussed included solid waste management initiatives and the organization of celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the city of Luena, which should serve as a moment of social and economic mobilization.
Although the funding represents progress, the impact is expected to depend on the capacity and efficiency of the projects, a recurring challenge in several regions of Angola. In a territory where development remains uneven, improving the primary school network is seen as a critical step to break cycles of poverty and expand opportunities for younger generations.
