Telecom Operator Unitel Wins Top Prize at Benguela International Fair

Luanda: Mobile and internet operator Unitel won the Grand Prize at the 15th Benguela International Fair (FIB) on Saturday, leading a list of corporate honorees at the trade event.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the awards gala also recognized telecom rival Africell for best IT and telecommunications exhibit, food producer Carrinho for food and beverages, and CCL Ltda for civil construction. Other recognized companies included Banco de Fomento Angola (BFA), Standard Bank, and logistics firm AGL-Terminal Lobito.

Speaking on the sidelines of the gala, Unitel representative Rui Vaz attributed the award to the company's recent focus on innovation, particularly its deployment of 5G technology aimed at expanding business services. "Over its 25 years, Unitel has demonstrated quality service," Vaz told reporters, pledging continued investment in customer offerings.

Organized by Arena Group, this year's trade fair gathered more than 400 national and international companies alongside public and private entities. Arena Group Commercial Director Manuel Novais praised the participants, noting that each firm brought "a story, a project, an innovation, vision, and ambition."

The 2026 edition was held outside its traditional May schedule following severe flooding on April 12, when the overflowing Cavaco River caused extensive infrastructure damage, displaced hundreds of families, and resulted in dozens of casualties across the region.
