ARCHBISHOP HAILS PRESIDENT’S REQUEST FOR FORGIVENESS

Lubango – The Archbishop of Lubango, Dom Gabriel Mbilingi, on Tuesday in Lubango, the capital of Huila province, welcomed the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, for the pardon request presented to the Nation, for the victims of the political conflicts.

In a statement to the press, on the sidelines of the presentation of the new prosecutors of Huila, the religious official said that this gesture of the Head of State represents a “milestone in the history of the country”.

In his view, the symbolic gesture goes beyond the material and physical aspects, stressing that it goes beyond the “simple” delivery of death certificates or bones to the families of the victims.

“This gesture goes down in history and marks a more than important page, especially for each person who was a victim of the various conflicts from 1975 to 2002,” the Catholic Church official declared.

Dom Mbilingi understands that people saw in João Lourenço’s request for forgiveness “a call for reconciliation, for unity and the possibility of starting again a cycle of victory over hatred.”
