Saurimo: The Attorney General H©lder Pitta Groz, on Wednesday, emphasized the necessity for joint efforts between the Attorney General's Office (PGR), law enforcement, and defense and security forces to tackle the issues of public property vandalism and illegal logging, highlighting their detrimental impact on the national economy.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the judge articulated his concerns at the conclusion of a two-day visit to Lunda-Sul, stressing that these criminal activities compel the state to frequently replace infrastructure. He underscored the importance of complaints from the population, churches, traditional authorities, and civil society to ensure that offenders are apprehended and held accountable.
H©lder Pitta Groz noted that in Lunda-Sul, illegal logging poses a more significant challenge than smuggling crimes, such as fuel smuggling. He also addressed concerns about the use of preventive detention, asserting that there is no overcrowding issue in the province. However, he highlighted the need for improvements in the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), particularly in expediting proceedings and enhancing the approach to users.
During his visit, H©lder Pitta Groz engaged with the Governor of Lunda-Sul, Daniel Neto, and met with judges from the Public Prosecutor's Office and administrative officials of the judicial system. He also inspected the facilities of the local PGR, the SIC, the Diamond Pole, and other key locations.
