AU-EU Summit Focuses on Mobility and Prosperity Challenges

Luanda: Prosperity and People versus Migration and Mobility will dominate the agenda of the thematic session Tuesday, the last day of the 7th African Union-European Union Summit, which is taking place in the Protocol Hall of the Presidency of the Republic, in Luanda. With keynote speeches by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the African Union Commission, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, the program also includes the presentation of the Business Declaration and communications from the Youth and Civil Society Forum. According to Angola Press News Agency, the summit, which marks 25 years of EU-AU partnership, as well as the 50th anniversary of the independence of Angola and several other African countries, is co-chaired by the Angolan President and President of the African Union, Joo Lourenço, and the President of the European Council, António Costa. Under the motto "Promoting Peace and Prosperity through Effective Multilateralism," the summit highlights the political co mmitment of both blocs to building a more balanced partnership, focusing on sustainable development, trade, mobility, investment, and regional stability. At the end of the debates, the Declaration of the 7th AU-EU Summit will be adopted. The event concludes with a press conference to be co-chaired by the Angolan Head of State, Joo Lourenço, the Presidents of the European Council, António Costa, the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the African Union Commission, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf. The last EU-AU summit took place in February 2022 in Brussels, at which time both sides consolidated a shared vision for a renewed partnership. The Luanda meeting continues this political exercise and is also based on the results of the ministerial meeting in May 2025, where ministers reinforced their commitment to deepening bilateral ties, anchored in shared values, converging interests, and an agenda of sustainable growth and stability for both continents.
