Cuito: The chairman of the Angolan Bar Association (OAA), Jos© Lus Domingos, on Saturday in the city of Cuito, Bi© Province, reaffirmed the organization's ongoing commitment to the qualification and excellence of forensic professionals in the country.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Domingos spoke to ANGOP during the Lawyers' Gala, which was part of the celebrations marking the OAA's 29th anniversary, established on September 20, 1996. He highlighted the association's focus on enhancing the quality of its professionals by investing in their qualifications and technical capabilities.
Domingos emphasized that the OAA's guiding principle is not merely increasing the number of professionals but ensuring their competence to contribute effectively to the justice system. He stated that the organization is dedicated to training professionals who can provide dignified services to the profession, society, and the rule of law.
He assured that despite the long journey, the OAA is committed to working alongside other justice professionals to improve the justice system. Domingos also mentioned the implementation of a rigorous selection process for new entrants into the legal profession, aligning with constitutional recommendations.
Addressing the impact of legal education on professional quality, Domingos called for significant reforms in law school curricula to meet current challenges. He acknowledged weaknesses in the country's legal education system and advocated for dialogue to enhance the teaching and learning process for legal professionals in Angola.
Reflecting on the OAA's achievements over 50 years of national independence, Domingos noted that the association has grown to include 13,779 professionals, with 13,572 active members. The OAA has expanded to represent 18 of the 21 provinces, supported by ten provincial councils and eight delegations.
The OAA also engages in public debates and provides opinions on the challenges of establishing a Democratic State and the Rule of Law in Angola. The Lawyers' Gala, part of the 8th National Conference of Angolan Lawyers, featured cultural performances and was attended by over 800 national and international professionals and guests.
