Luanda – Angola´s ambassador to Ethiopia, Francisco José da Cruz, announced Tuesday in Addis Ababa that the next Biennial of Luanda is to be held in the last quarter of 2023 and it will be dedicated to “Education, Culture of Peace and African Citizenship as Tools for the Continent´s Sustainable Development”.
Speaking at the meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to the African Union (AU), regarding the results of the second edition of the Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace – Luanda Biennial, held in 2021, the Angolan diplomat argued that the event will be aligned with the theme of the continental organisation for 2024.
The diplomat, who is also the Angolan permanent representative to the AU, added that under the organisation´s Agenda 2063, entitled “The Africa we want”, the Biennial will contribute to the realisation of Aspiration 5, named “An Africa endowed with a strong identity and cultural heritage, as well as common values and ethics”.
Francisco José da Cruz stressed that the nomination of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, as “Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa”, during the 16th Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU, constitutes an added responsibility for the promotion of a Culture of Peace on the continent.
The Luanda Biennale, which was stabilised in 2015 during the 24th Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government, aims to strengthen the pan-African movement for a culture of peace and non-violence, a primary requirement to make an integrated, peaceful and prosperous Africa.
