Luanda: The Archdiocese of Luanda confirmed the presence of bishops from Namibia, South Africa, Mozambique, and other countries during Pope Leo XIV's visit to Angola, scheduled from the 18th to the 21st of this month.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the announcement was made by Father Adelino Calonda, the archdiocesan coordinator of the teams preparing for the papal visit, during a press conference. He revealed that Pope Leo XIV will arrive with a "Papal Entourage," consisting of approximately 80 members, including cardinals, bishops, officials of the Roman Curia, security personnel, and direct advisors.
Father Calonda expressed hopes of extending Angolan hospitality to the international community accompanying the Pope. The Episcopal Conference of Angola and So Tom© (CEAST) is mobilizing to welcome bishops and priests from other conferences, aiming to include those from dioceses near Angola in the papal visit.
He further explained that CEAST dioceses will prepare 200 delegates who will be registered by the General Commission. These delegates will have a designated place at the Mass in the Kilamba Housing Project and will participate in the choir closest to the presbytery for the celebration.
On transportation, Father Calonda noted that the Angolan government is providing transport for attendees, with pickups arranged at Largo das Escolas in the municipality of Maianga. He advised against using private vehicles due to restrictions associated with the presence of many officials.
During his visit, Pope Leo XIV will tour Luanda, Muxima, the province of Icolo and Bengo, and Saurimo (Lunda-Sul).
