The body of a middle aged man has been retrieved from River Miriu in Upper Nyakach location of Kisumu County after being spotted by members of the public.
The body, believed to have been washed downstream by floods was sighted at the barrier of a Kenya Electricity Generation (KeNGEN) company dam in Ogeka village.
Upper Nyakach Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Dawin Orina said a team of police officers from Ogoro Police Station moved to the scene and retrieved it.
He added that the body has been successfully identified by family members of a man who drowned at Sigowet area in Kericho county on Sunday.
The body, he said, was moved to Sigowet mortuary awaiting a postmortem.
Orina said this was the second body to be retrieved from the river in a month calling on those living within the riparian area to exercise caution.
He also urged fishermen and those fetching water from the river for domestic use to stop until the heavy rains being experienced in the area subside.
Parents, he added, must exercise ca
ution and escort their children to school to ensure that they cross rivers and streams safely.
‘Parents and teachers must put strong measures in place to ensure our children remain safe,’ he stressed.
Orina further urged the community to take advantage of the rains and plant short term crops and trees to boost food security and conserve the environment.
