Saurimo – The Brilhante Foundation has invested over one billion kwanzas in several social programmes in Lunda Sul Province from 2021 to 2022, said this Monday the institution’s assistant general director for the area of studies and projects, Flávio Fernandes.

Speaking to ANGOP, he said that the money was invested in the programmes of entrepreneurship and education, especially the Catoca Mining Society project named Catoca Aluno and Académico (Catoca Student and Academic programmes), which included internal and external graduation, Master’s and PhD degrees, funded by Angola Diamond Trading Company (SODIAM), as part of the partnership with the Provincial Government of Lunda Sul.

He explained that the Catoca Student and Academic programmes had benefited 1,270 people, while in entrepreneurship 40 young people had received credit of 3 million kwanzas, provided by Banco Sol, with a subsidised interest rate of 1.5 percent.

Fernandes noted that within this package funded by the Japanese Sintered Metal Corporation (SMC), the credit programme for rural women remained to be implemented, which was not possible to do last year, but he assured that in March, this year, at least 1,000 women are to receive 36,000 kwanzas each.

He added that sponsorship went also to the “S.O.S – school project”, an initiative of the Provincial Association of the Fights Against Drugs, which aimed at sensitising youths and teenagers to get rid of drug consumption.

As regards support for literary production, during the period under analysis, five works were sponsored for publication.

In another field, the Foundation also financed the construction of a school with 12 classrooms, which will soon be inaugurated.
