BUAP in Huambo Enhances Voter Registration Capacity

Huambo: The One-Stop Public Service Counters (BUAP) in Huambo province are now able to update more than 150 voters per day as part of the official registration and proof of life process.

According to Angola Press News Agency, this development was disclosed by Adelino Salvador Tchitau, the director of the local office of Registries and Administrative Modernization. The province currently operates 14 service points, each capable of handling over 150 voter updates daily.

Adelino Salvador Tchitau highlighted that each Unified Voter Registration Post (BUAP) employs between four and seven technicians, some of whom may also act as brigade members. Their mission is to bring services closer to communities and encourage the participation of national citizens over 18 years of age in the 2027 electoral process.

Efforts are ongoing to establish the 40 planned posts in Huambo province, with the recruitment of 330 technicians aiming to accelerate the updating of the unofficial register and proof of life. Additionally, the recruitment of 280 brigade members is underway, including 42 civic education agents, who will be distributed across the province's 17 municipalities.

The director noted that these professionals will enable intensified awareness campaigns and data collection in public and private institutions, neighborhoods, and densely populated areas, reducing the need for visits to the BUAPs. "The mobilization and awareness campaigns, which began eight days ago in Huambo province, will be more effective with the activation of these brigade members, whose recruitment process is in its final stages," he stated.

The institution also engages in civic education activities during weekends in religious institutions, as well as with youth associations and higher education institutions, to encourage citizen participation in the unofficial registration process.

Debates and awareness campaigns are also being conducted, involving the media, to reach the maximum number of eligible voters and strengthen civic participation. The province of Huambo aims to have a total of 631 professionals involved in the unofficial registration and proof of life process, with the goal of updating approximately 1.2 million voters.
