Luanda: LIDE Group chairman Joo Doria announced in Luanda on Thursday the intensification of business cooperation between Angola and Brazil, with a focus on agribusiness and mining. Doria, who heads a delegation of Brazilian business leaders, made the announcement after a meeting with President Joo Louren§o, during which the two sides discussed ways of deepening economic dialogue and identifying new areas of cooperation and investment.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the discussions focused primarily on opportunities for cooperation in the agricultural sector, highlighting Brazil's experience in animal protein production and Angola's agricultural potential. 'Brazilian agribusiness can establish a very positive relationship with Angolan agribusiness. We are creating a platform to accelerate relations between the private sectors of the two countries, always with the support of their respective governments,' Doria said.
Doria also revealed that he had invited the Angolan Head of State to visit So Paulo, Brazil, on 26 September, an invitation which President Joo Louren§o immediately accepted. He explained that President Joo Louren§o would take part in a business meeting bringing together Brazilian investors from several sectors, particularly agribusiness, and would be honoured for his contribution to strengthening economic relations between the two countries.
'The objective is to present Angola as an investment destination to Brazilian and international businesspeople based in So Paulo, highlighting the country's economic potential and the opportunities created by the Government,' he said. Doria said President Joo Louren§o's decision to attend the meeting demonstrated pragmatism and commitment to attracting private investment to Angola.
The LIDE chairman explained that the organisation operates as a business promotion platform, facilitating direct contacts between Angolan and Brazilian economic operators, with particular attention to the agricultural and mining sectors. In this regard, he announced that the September meeting is expected to bring together representatives of major Brazilian business groups, including companies involved in mining and agribusiness, to establish direct contacts with Angolan authorities and businesspeople.
Doria also highlighted the recent establishment of LIDE Angola, the organisation's second representation in Africa after Morocco, saying the country offered favourable conditions for strengthening economic relations between the two markets. The Brazilian delegation took part in a business agribusiness forum in Luanda this week, which brought together more than 1,100 participants. Doria said the turnout demonstrated growing interest among the Angolan and Brazilian private sectors in expanding opportunities for cooperation and investment.
Sectors that could benefit from future partnerships include agriculture and agro-industry, energy and renewable energy, oil and gas, infrastructure, logistics and transport corridors, technology, innovation, healthcare and tourism. These areas are regarded as strategic to the diversification of the Angolan economy. The initiative forms part of efforts to promote Angola as a destination for foreign investment and strengthen business cooperation with Brazil, one of the country's longstanding economic partners.
The Brazilian delegation includes, among other figures, former Agriculture Minister K¡tia Abreu; former Development, Industry and Foreign Trade Minister Luiz Fernando Furlan; former Foreign Trade Secretary Roberto Giannetti; and former So Paulo State Agriculture and Supply Secretary Francisco Matturro.
