Luanda: Cabinda Province is currently the epicenter of Mpox cases in Angola, with 200 confirmed cases out of a national total of 289. This significant concentration of cases has prompted urgent action from national health authorities. According to Angola Press News Agency, a press release from the Ministry of Health (Minsa) highlighted the gravity of the situation, leading Health Minister Sílvia Lutucuta to visit Cabinda. Her visit aims to collaborate with local health officials on strategies to curb the spread of the disease. The statement from Minsa noted that Cabinda's extensive border with the Democratic Republic of Congo presents additional challenges, as it allows for considerable cross-border movement which may contribute to the spread of Mpox. In response, Minister Lutucuta announced enhanced monitoring measures at entry points. These include temperature checks, early detection of symptoms such as fever, lesions, and skin rashes, alongside immediate isolation and testing for suspected cases.
