Luanda: The Chinese and Vietnamese ambassadors to Angola have conveyed their condolences to the Angolan people and the ruling MPLA party following the passing of Manuel Augusto, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs. They highlighted his influential role in fostering friendships and cooperation between Angola and their respective countries. According to Angola Press News Agency, China's ambassador to Angola, Zhang Bin, expressed that Manuel Augusto's death is a significant loss not only for Angola but also for China. Zhang noted Augusto's contributions to strengthening relations between the MPLA and the Communist Party of China, emphasizing the valuable meetings and conversations they shared. The ambassador underscored the importance of continuing Augusto's legacy to promote camaraderie and collaboration between their nations. Similarly, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Angola, Duong Chinh Chuc, shared his sorrow over the loss of Manuel Augusto. He stated that the news was met with shock and sadness by the Com munist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese Government. Having met Augusto in 2023, shortly after assuming his post, the Vietnamese diplomat appreciated the support he received from him, recognizing Augusto's role in enhancing the historical ties between the MPLA and the Communist Party of Vietnam. The director of the Department of Information and Propaganda of the MPLA Central Committee, Manuel Fernando Correia, also remarked on the profound impact of Augusto's passing. He described Augusto as a leader, statesman, and friend who was always available to assist others. Correia emphasized that the best tribute to Augusto's memory would be to uphold the values he cherished, such as solidarity, friendship, and dedication to service, as guiding principles in daily life.
