Chipindo:Health officials in the southern municipality of Chipindo are set to install a sanitary border checkpoint this week to screen travelers coming from the neighboring Huambo province. This decision follows the confirmation of two laboratory-confirmed cases of monkeypox in Huambo. According to Angola Press News Agency, Benedito Camaco, the health supervisor for Chipindo, announced that the screening post will be positioned near the Cuando River bridge. This location is strategic for evaluating passengers traveling along the Huambo-Chipindo transit corridor. The establishment of this checkpoint is a response to the cases confirmed by Huambo health authorities in August. Camaco highlighted the geographical proximity of Chipindo to Huambo compared to the provincial capital of Huila, emphasizing the need for residents to increase precautionary measures and remain vigilant. Camaco assured the public that Chipindo is equipped with the necessary medical personnel and equipment to detect and process potential cases effectively. The containment protocol includes transporting any individual showing symptoms at the checkpoint directly to a local hospital via ambulance for isolated treatment. Monkeypox is a rare viral disease that presents with symptoms such as fever, muscular aches, severe fatigue, and painful skin lesions. The virus spreads primarily through direct, prolonged physical contact with an infected person's rash or respiratory secretions during close interactions.
