Narok County Commissioner Isaac Masinde has assured Narok residents of improved security in the county during this Christmas Festival season.
Masinde said over 253 people had been arrested in the past one week since the security team put enhanced measures within Narok town to contain cases of insecurity.
‘We are not arresting everybody; we are arresting those we suspect are engaged in crime. The county security team resolved that by 11pm all people should be in their homes,’ he said.
We have divided Narok town in five sectors, Majengo, Total, K24, Lenana and mid Narok town. The five sectors are each headed by an inspector of police who head the security operations day and night.
‘No person is allowed to be outside their homes after 11pm unless they are providing essential services like journalists working in radio stations, doctors or any other job that allows someone to be outside past that hour,’ he said.
Masinde added that they have engaged bar owners, wine and spirit shops and entertainment clubs th
at they close their premises by 10.30 pm so as to give time to their customers to go home by 11pm.
‘The security team has held meetings with the boda boda team and agreed that when they carry suspicious people, they report to the police so that an action can be taken immediately,’ he said.
The bar owners have also been asked to identify and report suspicious characters in their premises, as many criminals camp in bars to identify drunk people with money, with an aim of following them to rob them off money.
‘This enhanced operation will continue until mid-January so as to curb crime during this festival season. We thank the residents of Narok for collaborating with the security to give information that has led to the arrest of many culprits,’ he said.
He called on the church leaders who wish to hold night prayers during this festival season to liaise with the security team, so that they can be provided enough security.
Commissioner Masinde assured tourists visiting the Maasai Mara Game Reserve of enhanced
security during this festival season.
At the same time, the Commissioner wished Narok residents a Merry Christmas and Happy New year.
