Luanda: A copper prospecting project was launched this past Saturday in the town of Kapangombe, situated in the municipality of Bibala in Angola's southwest province of Namibe, and it is anticipated to generate 200 jobs. According to Angola Press News Agency, during the inauguration ceremony, Namibe's Provincial Vice-Governor for the Political and Social Sector, Abel Kapitango, emphasized that the project will play a crucial role in economic diversification in the region and strengthen the commitment to the sustainable valorization of mineral resources. He reiterated that exploring the region's mining potential is expected to attract private investment, thereby boosting the economy and creating employment opportunities. Tony Liu, representing the company holding the prospecting title, disclosed that preliminary studies have identified a copper occurrence approximately 6.5 meters wide and 120 meters long. He mentioned that ongoing work aims to confirm the depth and extent of the deposit. In the initial phase , the project plans to employ 20 workers, with job numbers expected to exceed 200 during the exploitation phase, which is estimated to last five years. Prospecting activities are slated to commence next month in August.
