Covid-19: Governor of Bié wants to reinforce biosafety measures

Cuito – The governor of central Bié province, Pereira Alfredo, said today in Cuito city that municipal administrations, defence and security bodies, social institutions and residents’ committees should sensitise the population to the compulsory fulfillment of biosafety norms as well as to the adherence to vaccination posts.

Speaking at a meeting with municipal administrators and managers of hospital units, Pereira Alfredo said the authorities’ aim was, by March of this year, to have vaccination coverage of at least 50 percent, as compared to 39 percent at the moment.

Taking into account the lack of nursing professionals, the governor recommended the health sector to persuade final year students of the Polytechnic Higher School and of secondary education institutions, to take part in the process, given their experience.

He said, on the other hand, that the province has all the human and financial conditions, vaccines and materials, for the vaccination and sensitising actions to fight against covid-19 within the communities.

The measures to counter the increase of covid-19 cases in the region are the reinforcement of border surveillance with the provinces of Cuando Cubango, Huambo, Cuanza-Sul, Moxico, Malange, as well as means, namely thermometers, rapid tests and others.
