Creation of search, rescue system gets green light

Luanda – Cabinet Council approved Wednesday the presidential decree establishing the National Integrated Search and Rescue System, as well as the corresponding legal regime.

The document, according to the final communiqué of the meeting chaired by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, contains legislative and regulatory measures applicable to the service of search, assistance and rescue of aircraft.

The measure is also applicable to the service of buildings, vessels or maritime vehicles and persons in danger at sea, on land and in inland navigable waters, under national jurisdiction.

This text, the statement states, results from the responsibilities arising from Angola’s adherence to international conventions, namely that of Chicago, known as the Convention on Civil Aviation, the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea and on search and rescue.

The measure aims to establish an international search and rescue plan, to meet the needs of maritime traffic, with regard to the rescue of people in danger at sea.
