Cuban Vice President pays tribute to José Eduardo dos Santos

Luanda – The Cuban Vice President, Salvador Valdes Mesa, on Tuesday expressed his condolences on the death of the former President of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos.

In a book of condolences opened at the Angolan diplomatic representation in Cuba, he said that José Eduardo dos Santos “was a sincere friend of Cuba, of Fidel and Raúl Castro.

He also noted that he had made a significant contribution to strengthening relations of friendship, cooperation and solidarity between the two countries.

The qualities of the former Angolan President were also praised by the Vice-Ministers of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba and of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Sotolongo and Elio Perdomo, respectively.

To the same end, more than a hundred ambassadors and diplomatic representatives accredited in the Cuban capital and other individuals paid tribute to the former president.

Last Friday, in a tweet, the Cuban President lamented the death of the former Angolan President and declared a day of national mourning.

In Kenya, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Raychelle Omamo, and the ambassadors accredited in this country also paid tribute to the former President of the Republic of Angola.
