Cuito Cuanavale/Mavinga: Mine clearance starts by January 5

Menongue – Mine clearance on the country’s road number 280 which connects Cuito Cuanavale and Mavinga, south-east Cuando Cubango province, is set begin on January 5, 2023.

At least 115 experts from the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) assigned to the 5th Infantry Division will be involved in clearing the 210 kilometers of route.

Speaking to the press Tuesday, the head of the military engineering division of the Command of the V Military Infantry Division, Lt Col. Carlos Domingos Muanza, said the process begins with deforestation starting in the Tumpu Triangle, towards the municipality of Mavinga.

He also said three of the four demining brigades are in the municipality of Mavinga and the last one in Cuito Cuanavale.

The military engineering of the FAA, under the guidance of the Commander-in-Chief, João Lourenço, began in August of this year the process of clearing and earthmoving the Licua/Mavinga section, which has already allowed the advance of more than 16 kilometers.
