Luanda: The advantages of cooperation between Angola and Japan, as well as the results of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), were discussed in an article by the Angolan ambassador to Japan, Teodolinda Coelho, in the Japanese magazine Keidaren in October. According to Angola Press News Agency, a note from the Angolan diplomatic mission in Japan highlighted the article's discussion of TICAD as an important factor in the relationship between the two countries. TICAD is Japan's largest business association, comprised of over 1,500 member companies. Translated into Japanese and English, the article highlights the 50-year relationship between Angola and Japan, during which time the two countries have developed projects in a wide range of fields. The diplomat notes that Angola has benefited from Japan's support in the development process since achieving peace, including infrastructure construction and rehabilitation, staff training, and investments in health, agriculture, telecommu nications, transportation, science and technology, energy and water, and fisheries, among other sectors. Teodolinda Coelho emphasized the need for the two countries to continue working toward more comprehensive cooperation. She urged Japan to support Angola's industrialization process through investment in order to harness the country's economic potential. Teodolinda Coelho said she expects cooperation between the two countries to expand to include oil, gas, and mining, positioning Angola as one of Japan's primary partners in the energy sector and allowing the country to capitalize on its strategic mineral resources vital to the industry. She also highlighted how the discussions and results of TICAD-9 could impact the alignment and development of projects stemming from the African Union's Agenda 2063. These projects aim to address the continent's challenges regarding industrialization and interconnectivity, facilitating Africa's integration and fostering its economic development.
