Vice President Esperança da Costa Joins Pink October Breast Cancer Campaign

Luanda: Vice President Esperança da Costa joined the "Pink October" campaign to reinforce the message about the importance of prevention, awareness, and ongoing information about breast cancer. On the occasion, Dr. Maria Vieira Dias placed the pink ribbon on the Vice President's lapel, symbolizing the support of the Vice-Presidential Support Bodies (OAVPR) to the global initiative. According to Angola Press News Agency, in a message made public on the occasion of "Pink October," the Vice President highlighted that breast cancer represents a global public health problem, being the disease that most affects women and the second leading cause of death, after cardiovascular diseases. Esperança da Costa therefore urged all Angolan women in general, and OAVPR employees in particular, to regularly undergo early diagnosis. She also argued that, in this month of October, dedicated to breast cancer awareness and prevention, it is necessary to contribute to strengthening and amplifying the message about self-care, eli minating cultural blocks, and installed stereotypes. The official further stated that "Pink October" serves as a clear reminder to every woman that prevention is the path to a cure and early diagnosis is the window to saving lives, proposing a reflection on the importance of encouraging routine screenings to detect the disease in its early stages. "This year could not be different, and it is with great honor that I join this initiative, urging everyone to unite around this cause and remember that life is unique and beautiful, and prevention is the path to a cure," she emphasized.
