DRAFT 2022 BUDGET FORWARDED TO PARLIAMENT

Luanda – The Draft Budget for 2022, with expenses estimated at 18.7 billion kwanzas, reached the National Assembly (AN) on Friday.

The Minister of State for Economic Coordination, Manuel Nunes Júnior, handed over the country’s main management instrument to the Speaker of National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.

“We brought a balanced and non-deficit budget. For us this is very important because it means that the country’s debt needs have decreased,” said the Minister of State.

He expressed, at the time, the need to continue with the same path, started in 2018, regarding the presentation of balanced and non-deficit budgets.

According to him, when expenses are higher than income, it is necessary to borrow to cover the difference, “but there is no need to cover, there is no need for greater indebtedness and this is what we have been pursuing since 2018”.

He recalled that the 2018 and 2019 budgets also had a positive budget balance, but in 2020, due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, it saw a deficit of around 1 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The most recent projections, said the Minister of State, indicate that this year (2021), the country will once again have a positive budget balance, with the same indicative data being referenced for 2022.
