Benguela: Twenty-five media professionals from the provinces of Benguela, Cuanza-Sul, Huambo, and Bié will participate on the 19th and 20th of this month in a training workshop on municipal civic education, ANGOP learned on Wednesday. Promoted by the NGO Democracy Works Foundation (DWF), which operates in the SADC region, the training session in Benguela is part of its civic education project aimed at preparing national actors for the implementation of municipal authorities.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the participants will engage in discussions on the municipal legislative package, which has been approved in general by the National Assembly. The source from the project management highlighted that the workshop will include an analysis of organic laws related to the legislative package and interactions with journalists to gather their insights.
The training will also examine the role of citizens during municipal processes. The source indicated that one of the benefits of implementing municipalitie
s is the closer proximity of administrative services to citizens, which allows for their direct involvement in addressing community issues.
The Democracy Works Foundation is a non-partisan, non-profit regional Non-Governmental Organization headquartered in South Africa, with offices in Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, and Zambia. It focuses on training and research activities aimed at strengthening democratic institutions in Southern Africa.
In Angola, DWF launched a civic education project in 2023 to prepare national actors for municipal implementation. Consequently, the project has conducted various training initiatives across the country, targeting the media as one of its primary audiences.
