Dundo – The head of the MPLA’s list for August 24 general elections João Lourenço said Wednesday in Dundo, Lunda Norte province, that his party is the most one interested in the institutionalisation of local authorities, due to its role in harmonious development of the country.
João Lourenço stressed the party’s commitment to the local authorities while delivering his speech at the mass political event held Dundo, as part of the electoral campaign.
He said that in this mandate, which is about to end, it was MPLA party that took the initiative to implement the process (local authorities) to combating the regional differences.
In terms of governance, the MPLA president said that his party feels the need to decentralise power to ensure that many decisions do not have to wait for central power.
We have already been doing something that is already on this path, as is the case of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM).
“More than anyone, we, the MPLA, feel the need to bring power as close as possible to the citizen. So we forwarded 11 bills to the National Assembly, of which ten have already been approved, so that we can have legal support for creation of the local elections”, he stressed.
He said that the municipal elections only did not take place in this mandate that was about to end due to the lack of approval of the last law “.
“Local authorities will be implemented, it does not matter if the process will be carried out simultaneously or gradually. But one way or another we will have to institute municipal power during the second term”, he said.
The election of 24 August will gather the parties such as MPLA, UNITA, PRS, FNLA, APN, PHA and P-NJANGO parties and the CASA-CE coalition.
