- Luanda – The National Association of Disabled of Angola (ANDA) said that arrangements have been underway to ensure easier access for the people with disabilities to the polling stations.
ANDA’s chairperson, Silva Lopes Etiambulo, announced this on Monday adding that his institution started contacts with the National Electoral Commission (CNE).
According to the association leader, who was speaking to ANGOP, the CNE must safeguard and facilitate the access of people with disabilities to polling stations so that they can exercise their right to citizenship.
He regretted the fact that few parties competing in the August 24 elections come up with programmes that include people with disabilities, despite the fact that many citizens have been left in this condition as a result of the war, in defence of territorial integrity.
To Silva Lopes Etiambulo, political parties should stick to a speech that contributes to the consolidation of democracy in the country, creating a climate of peace and harmony.
National Association of the Disabled of Angola controls at least 80,000 members.
Roughly 14.3 million, of whom 22, 560 residing abroad, are expected to vote in the country’s fifth election on August 24, 2022.
