Dundo – Political parties standing for 24 August elections in the eastern Lunda Norte province Monday ended the electoral campaign with messages calling for reconciliation, national unity and the preservation of peace.
The MPLA’s first secretary, Ernesto Muangala, asked Angolans to refrain from heeding calls for “intolerance or civil disobedience”.
During a mass rally held in the urban district of Dundo, Â Muangala said that the elections should not pose a threat to political stability, security and sovereignty, but rather an opportunity for active participation in the country’s future.
In turn, the provincial secretary of UNITA, Domingos Oliveira, spoke of the need to place the national reconciliation, peace, social and political stability, “above any partisan interest”.
The politician called on Angolans to participate, in an “orderly and peaceful” manner, in the elections to safeguard the democratic rule of law.
The first secretary of the PRS, Domingos Lote, said that “serenity and political maturity” was crucial to secure national sovereignty, as the elections do not represent the end of a nation.
PHA secretary Manuel Massanzo called on political parties to accept the election results.
The last day of the campaign in Lunda Norte province was also marked by marches, promoted by the P-JANGO, FNLA and the CASA-CE coalition.
