Elections2022: Chirstian Churches Council calls for calm on voting day

Calai – Angolan Council of Christian Churches (CICA) has urged the faithful to keep their compusure in order to ensure a peacefull environment in the 24 August election.

The appeal was launched by pastor Pinto Ngonga Eugenio on Sunday in south-eastern Cuando Cubango province, during a Mass in favour of the general elections.

The Church authority recalled that every Christian should experience the electoral moment with high responsibility and calm.

He urged the Christian voters to show up at the polling stations with respect, in a peaceful and orderly manner for the success of the biggest democratic party.

According to him, the most important thing in the elections is the respect for the results of the contestants, but the responsibility to vote is individual.

The first secretary of MPLA in Cuando Cubango, José Martins, who attended the religious ceremony, asked Christians for a harmonious and civilized participation in the general elections.

Eight political parties are competing for election, namely: MPLA, UNITA, PRS, FNLA, APN, PHA and P-NJANGO parties and the CASA-CE coalition.

Roughly 14.3 million voters are expected to cast ballots on August 24.

Of this number, 22,560 are residing abroad.
