Elections2022: MPLA calmly awaits results

Luanda – MPLA party, at the head of the vote count with 60.65%, is calmly awaiting the release of the final results of the August 24 general elections, the party’s spokesman Rui Falcão said on Thursday in Luanda.

The party’s official was reacting to provisional data released by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) to Angolan Public Television (TPA), having accused UNITA of building a strategy to disseminate electoral results in its favour.

“It is a strategy known that it could be applied. We are aware of all this. And it is up to competent bodies in charge of whole process”, he underlined.

With 33.16% of the votes counted, the MPLA appears with 1.2 million voters, followed by UNITA with 680, 745 votes, according to CNE.

PRS comes third, with 1.45% (29,256 votes) and FNLA with 1.28% of votes counted (25,817).

The fifth ranked PHA has 1.05% (21, 130 votes).

CASA-CE coalition emerged as the sixth most voted party with 0.70% (14,255 votes).

APN with 0.51% (10,401 votes), while P-NJANGO, which comes last has 0.48% (9, 656 votes).

Some 14. 3 million voters were registered, including 22 560 residing abroad, to vote.
