Elections2022: Youth Council launches campaign to raise awareness on voting

Cacuaco – The National Youth Council (CNJ) launched Monday in Luanda’s Cacuaco Municipality, a door-to-door contact and lectures to educate young people about the importance of voting on the August 24 general elections, with a view to strengthening Angola’s democracy.

Available data show that roughly 3.5 million young people aged between 18 to 25 make up the most representative group of voters for the August 24 elections, from the over 14.3 million voters expected to cast ballots.

Speaking to ANGOP on the sidelines of the launching ceremony of the project, the president of the youth association, Isaías Calunga, said the campaign will particularly focus on the group of undecided voters, as he said it is important that all Angolans of voting age participate in the process.

“We’re going to do a lot of door-to-door work to convince everyone about the importance of voting, especially for those young people who are still not sure about their participation in this celebration of democracy”, he said.

Isaías Calunga called for civic and orderly participation of young people during and after the elections, a call that also involves respect for the results of the polls.

The electoral campaign began on July 24 with different political forces multiplying actions to convince the electorate.

On August 24, Angolans will choose a new President, Vice President and deputies to the National Assembly.
