Eleven Schools in Uíge Province Officially Join UNESCO Network

Uíge: Eleven out of the 20 schools in Uíge province associated with the UNESCO Schools Network have received their official certificates, marking their membership in the international institution. The certification ceremony was held alongside the 7th Meeting of UNESCO Associated Schools of Angola, which saw participation from education sector officials, government representatives, and other distinguished guests. According to Angola Press News Agency, the certified schools include Uíge High School, Kilamba Kiaxi Primary School, and Zulumongo Neighborhood Primary School, located in the municipality of Songo. Orlando Marcelo, director of Uíge High School, expressed the institution's dedication to continuing efforts aligned with UNESCO's principles to maintain its integration within the network. Similarly, Rufino Francisco, director of Kilamba Kiaxi Primary School, emphasized the school's commitment to designing projects that adhere to UNESCO guidelines. Amadeu Afonso, director of Zulumongo Neighborhood Primary School, highlighted the school's focus on promoting quality and inclusive education based on UNESCO principles. Alexandre Costa, permanent secretary of the UNESCO National Commission in Angola, revealed that 165 schools in the country are part of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network. Sónia Arlete Fernandes Cahombo, Deputy Governor for Political, Social, and Economic Affairs of Uíge, reiterated the provincial government's commitment to collaborating with the education sector to improve educational quality. The 7th National Meeting of UNESCO Associated Schools is being conducted at Uíge High School under the theme "Providing education stakeholders with theoretical and methodological frameworks for quality education." The meeting, concluding on Saturday, aims to explore the role of schools in implementing the 2030 Agenda and transforming education by 2030. Discussions will cover the integration of local cultural heritage, traditional knowledge, and ICT into education, as well as the use of school sports as an educational tool. The event serves as a platform for exchanging experiences on the core values of the UNESCO Associated Schools program.
