Luanda: The National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE) has committed 56 million US dollars towards the acquisition and installation of 1.2 million electricity prepaid meters across the nation, as announced by Joo Luyeye, the head of the Lot 3 project.
According to Angola Press News Agency, this initiative is a part of ENDE's modernization and expansion program for the electricity distribution system. The program aims to enhance billing efficiency, reduce commercial losses, and provide customers with better control over their consumption.
Joo Luyeye emphasized that the widespread implementation of prepaid meters will ensure greater transparency in billing processes and contribute to the financial sustainability of the electricity sector. This move aligns with ongoing energy subsector reforms intended to increase electrification rates and improve service quality for the population.
By making this significant investment, ENDE reaffirms its commitment to technological advancement and continuous service improvement, in line with the government's public policies for Angola's energy sector. The provincial director of ENDE in Namibe, Pedro Samuel, noted that the project will help combat illegal connections, enhance metering control and reliability, and promote disciplined energy consumption.
He further explained that the initiative will secure financial resources necessary for reinvesting in service enhancements.
