Ennahdha says targeted by ‘false and misleading’ campaign

The Ennahdha movement has pointed the finger at an “ideological political party” (without naming it) that is constantly targeting it with a “false and misleading” campaign and “fabricated accusations”.

This party “is using its political and media resources to spread false accusations in order to eradicate its supporters and sympathisers from the organs and institutions of the state and send them to prison,» the movement added in a statement Saturday.

Ennahdha said this party” is trying to attribute last Tuesday’s shooting in Djerba to the movement and its president, though the President of the Republic and the Ministry of the Interior spoke about a criminal act.

The Ennahdha movement believes that this “political party” (without naming it) wants to use this opportunity to settle scores with its political rival, which it defeated in elections.

Ennahdha stressed that this party is bent on sowing discord between the movement and the President of the Republic and state institutions. It said party members are «citizens like the rest of the Tunisian population and therefore have the full right to live in their homeland, work and raise their children, and are subject to the law like other citizens.”

The Ennahdha movement last Wednesday announced its intention to file an “urgent” criminal complaint against the secretary general of the Unified Democratic Patriots Party (PPDU), Mongi Rahoui.

The PPDU (Mongi Rahoui’s chaper), in a statement condemning the Djerba operation published last Wednesday, considered that this incident “coincides with the beginning of the country’s recovery and the opening of legal proceedings against the symbols of terrorism and their accomplices, led by their leader in Tunisia, Rached Ghannouchi.”
