Executive reiterates commitment to institutionalise local authorities

Luanda – Angolan head of State João Lourenço reiterated Saturday in Luanda the commitment of the Angolan Executive to institutionalise local authorities.

In his State of the Nation Address to mark the 1st Legislative Session of the V Legislature of the National Assembly (AN), the president congratulated the ordinary legislator for having approved the municipal legislation, by consensus.

This, according to the statesman, demonstrates the commitment of everyone, regardless of party colour, to bring public services closer to the populations through politically autonomous entities.

The President referred that the Municipal Legislative Package is practically concluded, with only a few laws remaining to be approved, including the Institutionalisation of the Local Authorities.

He also said that the Executive is of the view that the shortcomings in infrastructure for future local authorities must be resolved. Because this is one of the main difficulties faced by the various municipalities in establishing staff in their territory, especially in the most remote areas.

He highlighted the fact that, with resources from the Integrated Programme for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), the construction of residential complexes is underway in 36 municipalities, as well as the construction of 35 assemblies for local authorities.
