President Kais Saied sacked Fatma Yaakoubi from her position as member of the National Commission for Reconciliation, by means of a decree issued on Friday morning, effective immediately.
Presidential Decree No. 812 of 2022, appointing the members of the National Commission for Reconciliation and its rapporteur was published in the Official Gazette of the Tunisian Republic (JORT) on November 11, 2022.
The President of the Republic set a deadline of six months for the Reconciliation Commission to recover 13.5 billion dinars for the Tunisian people. This is a legally prescribed timeframe for the commission to fulfil its responsibilities.
Decree No. 336 of 2023 was issued by the President of the Republic on dated May 12, 2023, regarding the renewal of the mandate of 7 members of the commission for a second six-month period.
Decree-Law No. 2022-13 of March 20, 2022, regulates penal reconciliation and the allocation of its resources. Through its 50 articles, the Decree-Law scrutinised the various modalities of implementing penal reconciliation.
It also listed the individuals targeted by the process of penal reconciliation and carefully determined the methods for allocating the financial proceeds derived from this operation.
