Girabola ranks 37th best world championship

  1. Luanda – The first division national football championship (Girabola) ranks 37th on the list of the best championships in the world, for the year 2021, released over the weekend by the International Federation of Football Histories and Statistics (IFFHS).

    The first division National football Championship (Girabola) has 416.5 points, above leagues in countries such as Tunisia, Poland, the United States of America, Sweden and the DRC.

    The term “Girabola” is a creation of the broadcaster and sports reporter, Rui Carvalho, in 1972, at the time when the event was officially called “Campeonato do Estado Ultramarino de Angola”

    The first post-independence edition took place in 1979. It was won by 1º de Agosto FC, among 24 teams against the current 16.

    Petro de Luanda ranks first in the country with 15 trophies, followed by 1º de Agosto with 13.
