Government Advocates for National Protocol to Save Ecosystems

Luanda: The Secretary of State for Fisheries and Marine Resources, Álvaro dos Santos, defended on Saturday in Luanda the urgent creation of a strategic protocol between the Executive, scientists, and environmentalists to halt the degradation of marine and terrestrial ecosystems caused by climate change. According to Angola Press News Agency, speaking at the opening of the National Meeting of Environmentalists (ENA 2026), the official stressed that the growing complexity of climate and environmental issues, both globally and nationally, requires a response that the Government cannot provide in isolation. He stated that environmental preservation is no longer a secondary issue, now constituting the guarantee of survival for fishing communities and the solid basis for building a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable blue economy. The official considered environmentalists as "the voice, the conscience and the driving force of the necessary ecological transformation of the country", challenging them to translate the debates into concrete actions on the ground. He emphasized that Angola needs the knowledge, passion, and scientific rigor of environmentalists to design a tomorrow where economic progress goes hand in hand with respect for and protection of nature. The National Meeting of Environmentalists is an initiative organized by the Academy of Environment and Sustainability, which aims to consolidate a national platform for dialogue, cooperation, and mobilization in the face of the ecological challenges that the country faces.
