GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES NATIONAL LAND TRANSPORT AGENCY

Cabinda – The Ministry of Transport is to create a National Land Transport Agency, as part of the process underway to merge the National Institutes of Road Transport and of the Angolan Railroad.

The intention is stated in the final communiqué of the 13th Expanded Consultative Council of the Ministry of Transport, which recommends the conclusion of the process of Concession, Exploration, Management and Maintenance of the rail infrastructure of the Lobito corridor.

After two days of discussions, the participants recommended the execution of the structuring and priority programmes and projects of national interest of the Transport and Logistics sector, especially those that compete for the support of the productive sectors, exploring innovative forms of financing.

The continuity of the processes linked to the policies and programmes for reorganisation of the Transport and Logistics sector, the reforms of the Legal and Regulatory Plan, the governance models and the change management plans are also points that the sector should take forward bearing in mind the challenges of the future.

The final document from the event, which the city of Cabinda hosted on 8 and 9 of this month, also made reference to the need to re-launch the Rail Transport Network, conclusion of the rail link with Zambia, and construction of rail branches for industry, with the contribution of the private sector.

Over the next few years, the Ministry of Transport will also focus on creating the preparatory conditions for the launch of the public-private partnership for the Luanda surface metro project, a subject that was much debated during the conclave.
