Government announces social pass for public transports

Luanda – The social pass on public urban transports will be introduced by the end of this year, announced this Friday the Minister of Transport, Ricardo de Abreu.

Ricardo de Abreu was speaking to the press at the end of a visit by the vice-president of the Republic, Bornito de Sousa, to the operational control centre of transport and mobility of Luanda province, created as part of the modernisation of public transport at a national level.

According to the Cabinet minister, the government has decided to keep fares on public buses at 50 kwanzas until the end of the year, when a segmented social pass will be introduced.

He said that the segmentation will adopt a fare to cover young people, the elderly, country veterans, people with reduced mobility and pregnant women and another normal fare for the rest of the population.

The official said that the introduction of the social pass and the regular passenger ticket, with real fare, will allow for greater sustainability of operators and renewal of fleets.

He believes that soon, with the integrated ticketing system and the new fare regime, it will be able to respond to the mobility dynamics associated to the population growth.
