Governor calls for strengthening of operational measures

Dundo – The governor of the eastern Lunda Norte province Deolinda Satula Vilarinho Monday defended the reinforcement of operational measures along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to better fight against illegal immigration.

While predicting the economic year 2023, Vilarinho spoke of the need to equip border posts with modern and effective equipment in order to stop this phenomenon, which has been increasing in recent years.

Data released by National Police pointed to 112 cases of border violations recorded from January to the present date.

The source added there is an increase of 20 cases compared to the same period, which resulted in the arrest of 25,524 citizens from the DRC, against 1,358 in 2021.

Police also said 11,010 irregular immigrants from the DRC were expelled from the national territory, 585 more than in the last period.

The operation took place through the border posts of Chissanda, Furtuna, Nachiri, Lupemba, Itanda, Nordeste, Furi-3 and Marcos-5, in the municipalities

of Chitato and Cambulo.

The province of Lunda Norte integrates municipalities of Chitato (political and economic capital), Cambulo, Caungula, Cuilo, Cuango, Capenda Camulemba, Lucapa, Lubalo, Lóvua and Xá-Muteba.
