Governor Defends Fight Against Child Exploitation in Namibe

Mo§amedes: The acting governor of Namibe, Abel Kapitango, highlighted the importance of a united effort among the province's social bodies to combat child labor and sexual abuse of minors. Speaking at the opening ceremony of a seminar on child care and protection organized by the National Institute for Children (INAC), Kapitango emphasized the collective responsibility to protect children's rights by providing swift, humane, and effective care.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Kapitango expressed concern over child labor in Namibe, as it deprives children of education, family life, and healthy development. He advocated for the strengthening of prevention mechanisms, enhancing training for technicians and community agents, and bolstering the network for reporting and supporting victims.

Kapitango noted the unique challenges faced by Namibe due to its geographical, social, and economic context, which include sexual violence against minors, economic exploitation of children, and child abandonment. These issues demand coordinated and continuous action from all parties involved.

The seminar's participants discussed various topics such as procedures for handling cases of children in vulnerable situations, functional procedures for locating children, and family reunification, aiming to enhance the provincial approach to child protection.
